Poets and Punks Blog: Map of Grunge Alley
Pink Umbrellas Love Rainydaze, Grungy Short Stories from Seattle is a surf punk beach read inspired by true events. This Seattle map is in the front of the book and features numbered locations for specific places in the stories. This is a partial listing of Seattle’s live music venues during the 1980s - 2000. There were dozens more scattered immediately east of Interstate-5 on Capitol Hill, and more to the north around the University of Washington.
The black stars are music venues in “Grunge Alley” — the author’s catch phrase for the dozens of live music clubs and concert halls that occupied the downtown corridor from the OK Hotel Cafe on the waterfront, to the Seattle Center, to the Off Ramp near the freeway, to the Kingdome.
